  • Did you know that, by law, you might be entitled to receive overtime pay for the work that you do? Under both Maryland law and the law of the United States, many types of workers must receive overtime pay in certain cases. Do you work more than 40 hours in a week? If so, the law requires that you get paid overtime wages. Do you work longer than 10 hours in any one day? If so, Maryland law requires that you receive overtime pay.

  • Did you know what the minimum wage is in Maryland? It is $7.15 per hour. Is that what you are making? If not, your employer may be violating the law and your rights, and you may be entitled to collect what you have not been receiving.

  • Have you or anyone that you know been fired or otherwise punished for complaining about not receiving overtime pay or the minimum wage? If so, you may have a claim against your employer for illegal retaliation.

  • Do you receive meal breaks in your job? Maryland law requires that employees who work certain hours must be given meal breaks. Your employer may be shortchanging you.

  • Does your employer make unauthorized deductions from your wages? This unlawful practice often occurs in the restaurant industry. Be aware that even if the charges are legitimate, usually the employer cannot unilaterally deduct them from your paycheck, and he must pay you your full wages.
